The
Photographic Guild, Inc. was organized in 1933 and was
then known as the Miniature Camera Club. The
organization became the Photographic Guild of Detroit in
1942 and the Photographic Guild in 1993. It is
recognized as one of the oldest and largest camera clubs
in the United States. Its reputation for prints and
color slide excellence is nationwide and international.
|
Today The Photographic Guild has
more than 50 members. It is affiliated locally with the
Greater Detroit Camera Club Council and nationally with
the Photographic Society of
America.
|
The
Photographic Guild is financed through
membership dues and special projects
throughout the year.
|
The Photographic Guild is a
non-profit organization whose Board of Directors,
elected by the membership, determines the policies,
schedules, and supervises the yearly program of
activities.
|
|
Membership
is open to all persons, beginners and advanced
photographers alike, who are interested in improving
their photographic knowledge and skills.
|
| The Photographic Guild has recognized that the
future of photography is in digital and electronic
imaging. Because of its commitment to our membership, we
have taken the lead in the field of Digital and
Electronic photography and accept electronic images in
all Divisions of competition. We also offer to our
members workshops and programs on the advancements in
the field of digital photography.

Visitors are always welcome
at our meetings.
PURPOSE OF THE
PHOTOGRAPHIC GUILD
The Photographic Guild
seeks to establish higher standards in, and a keener
appreciation of, the photographic medium. This is
encouraged by
|
- teaching new processes and
techniques
- presenting lectures and
classes in photography
- giving constructive critique
of members' photographic
work
- promoting fellowship with other
photographers of similar interests.

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC
GUILD'S ACTIVITIES
|
In the pursuance of its
purposes, the Photographic Guild functions along four
principal lines. These are weekly meetings, publications,
educational programs and affiliation with other
photographic organizations.
|
Our weekly meetings (four Mondays a
month) give members an opportunity to compete with
others photographically, to listen to illustrated
lectures, and to see "how-to-do-it"
demonstrations.
|
In September 2003, The Photographic
Guild added a new division to its activities; The
Electronic Imaging Division. This new division focuses
on the rapidly expanding area of electronic photography.
Competitions are in the months of October, December,
February and April. We will conduct programs and
demonstrations on software and hardware relating to the
advances in electronic imaging in the months of
September, November, January, March and May.
